Estate Planning & Long Term Care

On Behalf of | Aug 16, 2017 | Estate Planning

While flying by the seat of your pants can be fun, most of us would agree that planning for the future is the best route to go.  Many of us have benefits that come with our jobs that include savings for retirement – 401K, IRA, pension plans – or we’ve taken our own initiative and set up an IRA or invested in the market with the eventual goal of sitting somewhere warm in the winter, enjoying our later years.  And a number of us take the basic step of having a will prepared to make sure our worldly possessions pass to the right people when we’re gone.  But the one issue some of us overlook in estate planning is the potential of needing long-term care at some point toward the end of our life.

Kelly Hubrig, a wealth advisor with Bell Investments in Wahpeton touches on this in a recent post that caught my attention.  With the cost of healthcare in America today – and a low probability of it ever decreasing in the future – it has become even more important to plan for the “what ifs” in preparing for that time between retirement and end of life to ensure that your estate planning and savings achieve their intended goals.

I highly recommend to my clients, espeically the more seasoned among them, to work with a financial planner to make sure they’re taking the right steps to make sure their savings and investments perform to their fullest and that they’re also taking the right steps to keep those funds secure, to the fullest degree possible, so they can pass on those things they worked so hard to obtain to future generations.
